MEETING UPDATE
For our last two meetings, PAHSG knows how to party! On Memorial Day, May 26, 2008, Wanda graciously hosted a cookout at her home. We had lots of great food, the kids got to enjoy some playtime, and the adults had time to talk and enjoy each other’s company.
Our last meeting was held at the Crewe Nazarene Church on June 9, 2008, where the kids brought their favorite book to share with the group. Some even dressed as their favorite character. Lots of laughs were shared when we played charades, and even the adults joined in! Of course, the highlight of the meeting was the ice cream party. Thanks to Tabby and Tammy for supplying the ice cream. It sure was a nice cold treat to enjoy during this steaming hot weather. Tammy also distributed many magazines and flyers to the parents which held lots of useful information. Also, she brought a box full of books that she no longer uses, and we had lots of fun going through the goodies! Thanks Tammy for putting that information together for us.
We are having lots of fun with each other and are looking forward to going full force in September. NEW NEWS
I wanted to mention that Tammy has started a natural/organic food co-op for our area. This is a great resource for our county for those who wish to purchase organic foods and household supplies at a great price. Please contact Tammy for more information. WE’RE ON THE WEBOur new website is www.pahsg.zoomshare.com. Please refer to this web site. It has lots of useful info, such as policies and procedures, Standard of Conduct, and Parent/Teacher/Student Responsibilities. Check it out!
NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting will be June 23, 2008 at the Crewe Church of the Nazarene. If you have any ideas for the upcoming meeting, please submit them to Tabby, Tammy or Wanda. ABOUT THE AUTHOR
You can contact me at jenniben@embarqmail.com. I would like to start a poetry or short story column, so if any of the students would like to have their work posted in the newsletter, please bring it to me at the next meeting, or e-mail me at the above address. If your child has done something exceptional, learned something new, conquered a difficult math problem, volunteered in the community, or anything that needs recognition, please let me know. We are so proud of our group of kids and think they are awesome, so lets spread the word!
God Bless!

May 7th 2008
PAHSG is now Official! Precious Angels Homeschool Support Group now has an official meeting place! The most recent group meeting was held on May 5, 2008 at the Crewe Church of the Nazarene in Crewe, Virginia. It is a lovely church that does so much and shows much generosity to the members of the community. We are all so grateful to the members of this church, and we thank God for providing us this central location so our group can grow and flourish. If you are just hearing about us or if you are thinking that homeschooling may be right for your family, please visit our web site to get more information. We would love to have you come visit and learn more about what we do for our children.
Updates from the Last Meeting
We had a great meeting on May 5, 2008. It was a “planning” meeting, and the parents present discussed the group’s objectives for the upcoming year, goals we would like to accomplish, and how we will obtain those goals. For those of you who were not able to attend, here is a rundown of what was discussed.
1. We would like for our co-op to be theme- based. For example, Keepers Of The Faith and Contenders Of The Faith were mentioned. We would like to divide the children into appropriate age groups, having maybe 2-3 classes, and have those classes be taught by moms. We would like to have at least 1 mom present during class time who will be available to help the teacher if need be. Any moms not involved in teaching or aiding the teacher may have the option of attending a bible study class during class time. Again, please visit the web site to read our Parent/Teacher Responsiblities. This is a helpful tool to help you keep abreast of what is expected.
2. Field Trips: We want to be a busy group! Several field trips were mentioned for next year, including Amazement Square, the science museum, and having scheduled park days and bowling days. If you have any ideas for field trips, please bring your ideas to Tabby so she can build the calendar. This calendar will also be posted on our web site so you can refer to as needed.
3. Dues: It was discussed and decided that we would like to charge a flat fee per family for membership from September through May of each year. The amount of this fee is yet to be determined, as we would like to see how many members we will have come September 2008. Please stay tuned!
4. Cut-off/waiting list: It was discussed that the co-op classes will be open to current members. Sign-ups may be taken for classes, depending on the teacher/class requirements and available resources. The cut-off number for the group is 40 children. However, field trips and special days like bowling days and park days will be open to all who wish to join us. There may be a small fee to join these trips. This will be determined by the trip. For example, a non-member wishing to go with the group bowling would be responsible for their own bowling fees, or a non- member wishing to participate in park day would pay a small fee of $5.00.
5. Meeting days: PAHSG will meet every second and fourth Monday at Crewe Church of the Nazarene from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Other activities may be scheduled on other days throughout the month.
6. Calendar: As mentioned before, Tabby is compiling a calendar for the next school year with a list of our activities. If you would like to sponsor activities such as an ice cream social, a reading incentive, field trips, park days, or if there is a subject that interests you or your children and you would like to teach, please let Tabby know the activity and/or class and approximate month/date you would like to lead this activity/class, and we will get that onto the calendar. We would like all parents involved in the planning of our year, and we would like all parents to participate. Please think about what you would like to contribute. We all, working together, can make this group soar!
7. End of year celebration/family night: Again, please see the web site for more information. This will be a fun-filled night for families to showcase some of their child’s work for their families. There will be a talent show if any kids are interested in participating, as well as refreshments served.
8. Attracting new members: We want our group to grow and flourish. Ways we can accomplish this is just by posting our goings-on on calendar, which is available for all to see on the web site. Tabby has done a superb job advertising the group. Thanks Tabby!
9. Newsletter: Unless you prefer to have a paper newsletter mailed to you, you will receive it by e-mail. Please contact me if you would like to receive the newsletter by mail. I will be more than happy to drop a copy in the mail to you… sometimes I go for a week and don’t check my e- mail, so I understand!
10. Mom’s Meeting: It was discussed that we mom’s could meet once a month to dish and relax and just enjoy good fellowship with friends.
11. Community Thanksgiving: This is something the Nazarene Church does every year. This would be a great way for our group to give back to the Church. If you have any ideas of how we can contribute and be a part of this great cause, let them be known!
We’re on the Web! Ok, what’s the web site I keep talking about? It is www.pahsg.zoomshare.com. Please refer to this web site. It has lots of useful info, such as policies and procedures, Standard of Conduct, and Parent/Teacher/Student Responsibilities. Check it out!
Next Meeting Our next meeting will be May 26, 2008 at the Crewe Church of the Nazarene. This will be Memorial Day. If you have any ideas for the upcoming meeting, please submit them to Tabby.
About the Author This is my first time doing a newsletter like this so please bear with me. This is a lot of fun! I know my font changed up there somewhere and I’m not sure how to change it back, and I’m sure I have made a few typographical or grammatical errors, but this was a hoot. If you have any ideas for upcoming newsletters, please bring them to me. I would like to include some of the children’s work, like posting poetry or short stories, or highlighting an exceptional Student of the Month. Let me know what you think! You can contact me at jenniben@embarqmail.com. God Bless!
